Philanthropy

What is Philanthropy?

Philanthropy is defined as any act of giving that improves the lives of others or society in general. It is not exclusive to the wealthy but much broader. Philanthropic acts are done strategically over the long term to address an ongoing problem. Such generosity is not always monetary in nature, either; people who regularly volunteer their time or skills with non profits or charities are also philanthropists. Even on a small scale, you might perceive the donation of time, money or assets as something people do for the sake of appearances or moral obligation. Alternatively, you may assume that philanthropy only benefits those on the receiving end of the equation. The truth is that philanthropic acts also improve the lives of those that give, particularly in ways related to general well being; a sense of connection to community, improved overall health, reduced stress, empowerment in dark and chaotic times, and the satisfaction of helping to solve a problem.

"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

We all had a wonderful and productive time rafting in the Smokey Mountains! Jacinta you are our first to fall out and free form all the way down the rapids! Lol. How great to share music with Edward John, silent auction and meals together for Christ's kingdom. What a blessing knowing we helped provide a clean water well for African children.

I am writing to thank you for your postcard concerning the protection of children and share your concerns and goals. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support and can say without hesitation that you were responsible for ensuring that in the end, when Bill C-128 finally received third and final reading by the House of Commons on June 14, 1993, that it did contain a prohibition on written material that advocates or counsels sexual activity with a person under the age of eighteen years. As always, I appreciate receiving views of my constituents and thank you for letting me know yours.
